The Daisy Girl Scout is just beginning their Girl Scout career and they normally work nearly two years in pursuit of their badges and petals. During this time period the young girls (from kindergarten to first grade) are also being introduced to the Girl Scout law and how each of the Daisy petals represent one part of that law, with the blue daisy center representing the Promise Center.
. Activities to earn the petals for the Daisy level Girl Scouts begin with learning and saying the Girl Scout law and then once learned, earning their blue center. As an activity practice saying the Promise repeatedly with the girls. The activities used to earn the petals should relate to the meanings of each of the petals. For the light blue petal which represents honesty and fairness you could split the girls up and divide items between them in equal portions. Teach on the fact that it would be unfair to give one girl or another more than the others. The yellow petal is awarded to those who have been friendly and helpful. You could provide the girls with stickers to pass out to people to whom they have been helpful and friendly and when their stickers are gone they can receive their badge. The green petal is for being considerate and caring. Have your troupe run a food drive for a local food pantry or shelter. For the red petal the Daisy has to perform courageously. Challenge your girls to try a new skill. They can achieve their orange petal by showing responsibility by assigning tasks for them to complete at each meeting or asking them to take up a responsibility in their neighborhood. The purple petal stands for respect and you could discuss this character trait with the girls and teach them some lessons on good manners and how to treat others well. You could also have the girls do a lap book full of healthy images to demonstrate a healthy self-respect. The magenta petal represents respecting authority. You can invite a law enforcement officer so that the girls can develop a better understanding of his or her responsibility and develop a healthy respect for them. For the green petal, which stands for using resources wisely, you can have the girls bring in items to recycle. The rose petal stands for the actions related to making the world a better place. Again you could run a recycle campaign or you could visit an orphanage and have the girls take along a gift. Lastly, the violet petal stands for sisterhood within scouting. You could host a party and have another troupe join yours in order to encourage sisterhood and camaraderie.
